How to Make Bold Text on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook & Discord
Most social media platforms don't offer built-in text formatting for posts and bios. You can't just highlight text and click a "Bold" button on Instagram or Twitter. But there's a workaround: Unicode characters. By using special Unicode bold characters, you can create text that appears bold anywhere, without any special formatting support from the platform.
How Does It Work?
Unicode includes multiple sets of alphabet characters beyond the standard Latin letters. Among them are "Mathematical Bold" characters that look like bold versions of regular letters. When you replace normal letters with these Unicode bold equivalents, the text appears bold on any platform that supports Unicode β which includes virtually every modern app and website.
The easiest way to do this is with our Bold Text Generator. Just type your text and copy the bold output.
Platform-by-Platform Guide
Instagram does not support any native text formatting in bios, captions, or comments. Unicode bold text is the only way to make text stand out. It works in:
- Bio / profile description
- Post captions
- Comments
- Story text (though stories also have built-in font options)
For even more style options, try our Fonts for Instagram tool, which offers dozens of unique text styles.
Twitter (X)
Twitter supports no native formatting in tweets. Unicode bold text works perfectly in tweets, bios, and replies. It's a great way to emphasize key points in threads or make your bio stand out.
While Facebook supports bold in some contexts (like group posts with Markdown), it does not support bold in personal status updates, comments, or bios. Unicode bold text works everywhere on Facebook.
Discord
Discord supports Markdown, so you can use double asterisks for bold:
**This text is bold in Discord**
However, Markdown does not work in usernames, server names, or channel descriptions. For those, you need Unicode bold text. Try our Discord Font Generator for more styles.

Tips for Using Bold Text on Social Media
- Use sparingly: Bold everything and nothing stands out. Reserve it for key phrases or calls to action.
- Test readability: Some Unicode characters may not render on older devices or certain operating systems. Always preview your post.
- Accessibility: Screen readers may not read Unicode bold characters the same way as regular text. Keep important information in regular text too.
- Combine styles: Pair bold with italic text or decorative fonts for more visual variety.
- SEO note: Unicode text is not indexed the same way as regular text. For web content, use HTML bold tags instead.
